9 Amazing North Shore Cabins for an Up North Getaway

Staying at a cozy cabin on the North Shore, MN makes a visit to one of the most beautiful places in the state even better.

There are dozens of adorable little places to stay, from Airbnb’s and VRBO’s to resorts that offer private cabin stays.

I’ve been visiting the North Shore since I was a baby, and growing up, we would book cabins during our fall and winter visits. One of my favorite memories of visiting the North Shore was when I was little and we stayed at a cabin right in Lutsen.

In this post, I’ll share a few of the best cabins that I’ve stayed in, as well as some other favorites that I plan to visit soon.

1. Beautiful Lake Superior Cabin in Lutsen

📍Location: Lutsen

This log cabin situated just off of Lake Superior in Lutsen is one of the most beautiful cabins that I’ve ever seen, and it’s the perfect spot to stay on the North Shore.

What really makes it stand out are the huge windows that overlook the lake, the patio that again, overlooks the lake, and the firepit that sits right on the, you guessed it, lake.

I mean, honestly, when you’re staying on the North Shore, one of the main draws is the lake, so staying this close just feels surreal.

Everything inside feels just like a log cabin in the woods from the wooden furniture to the moose and bear plaid blankets.

And it’s the perfect size to house a family or group of 6, with multiple bedrooms, bathrooms, and a huge kitchen to make dinner together at the end of the day.

The indoor fireplace is the perfect place to reminisce on the day’s memories or plan what’s to come tomorrow.

I love all of the opportunities to spot wildlife, and I especially appreciate that the house is so close to Lutsen and Grand Marais, where the most excitement on the shore happens!

2. Stunning Log Cabin Near Silver Bay

📍Location: Silver Bay

This log cabin in Silver Bay may have one of the most phenomenal views that I’ve ever seen from a home.

It sits perched on a hill a short distance from Tettegouche State Park, and overlooks the rolling hills of the Sawtooth Mountains and Lake Superior in the distance. I could sit on that patio all day long, especially when the fall colors roll in.

Inside you’ll find all the classic furnishings of a log cabin – a wood stove, plenty of cozy seating, and big windows.

Outside there’s a firepit area, as well as a grill so you can cook outside. And enjoy the incredible 270 degree views while you do so!

This home can sleep up to 6 people, and with the 2 bedrooms and additional futons, there are plenty of cozy places for you to get some good rest.

Some of the best hikes nearby are just 1/4 mile up the road, so it’s easy to access. Whether you’re there in winter or summer, the nearby activities are endless. Plus, access to Black Beach and Palisade Head are easy to reach!

3. Cove Point Lodge Cottages

📍Location: Beaver Bay

The Cove Point Lodge Cottages are a great choice for accomodations if you’re wanting to stay near Silver Bay and would prefer a cabin over North Shore camping or lodging.

You’ll be just minutes from Tettegouche and Split Rock Lighthouse State Parks, which are two of the most popular parks on the shore.

You can book either a two or three-bedroom cottage, which is the perfect size for families of 4-6.

The best part of the Cove Point Lodge Cottages is the large windows in each one, looking out into the roaring blue waters of Lake Superior.

I also love that when staying at Cove Point Lodge, there are tons of activities like renting bikes or snowshoes, an indoor pool and hot tub, a private Lake Superior cove, an on-site restaurant, and more. So even if you don’t feel like going out, you can stay in and still have fun.

Each cottage also has a fireplace in the living room looking out over the lake, which makes for the perfect way to sit back and relax at the end of the day.

Or, head out onto the beach and enjoy the lakeside firepits, with complimentary s’mores for a delicious dessert. I know that I’ll be doing this every night when I visit this fall.

4. Breezy Point Cabins on Lake Superior

These adorable red cabins get you about as close to Lake Superior as you can get, located just a short distance out of Two Harbors.

With the amazing fireplace looking out over the lake and the large windows to enjoy the views, even from inside, the Breezy Point Cabins are perfect for your stay.

Seriously, just step outside on the patio and you’ll be met with the fresh air floating off of Lake Superior. It feels so refreshing.

There are 12 different cabins, each ranging in size and how many people they can sleep. If you’re on a solo trip or with a partner, grab a 1-bedroom or studio cabin. Or for larger groups, the bigger 2-bedroom cabins will work great.

I really love that each of them has their own private space like a full kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom.

And because you’re near Two Harbors, you’ll have the chance to easily visit places like Gooseberry Falls and Tettegouche State Park. It’ll also put you near some great restaurants and other fun activities in town!

5. Classic American Log Cabin in Two Harbors

📍Location: Two Harbors

If you’re looking for that classic log cabin feel for your North Shore visit, then this is the place for you.

It’s a small 2-bedroom cabin sitting right on its own plot of Lake Superior shoreline, just out of Two Harbors near some of the best waterfalls and other activities.

A huge fireplace sits in the living room with plenty of seating around it to enjoy. Plus each of the bedrooms are cozy and comfortable to sleep up to 6 people.

My favorite part is the firepit that sits down just above the shoreline, so you can enjoy s’mores with friends and family as the waves crash into land.

Another thing that makes this cabin unique is the screened-in patio with Adirondack chairs, that allow you to enjoy the outdoors without the dreaded Minnesota mosquitos.

This cabin really does give off that ‘up-north’ feel, and being so small and tucked in the woods, you can enjoy a peaceful visit to the North Shore.

6. Solbakken Resort

📍Location: Lutsen

This beautiful resort on Lake Superior sits right between Lutsen and Grand Marais, being in the perfect spot for all of the best hidden gems and activities.

While the property has a resort with motel-style rooms, there are also 6 cabins, each with a different number of rooms, ranging from 1 to 3 bedrooms.

I personally love Solbakken Resort because the views are unmatched, and it’s far less busy than other popular spots to stay on the North Shore.

Each cabin has its own kitchen, wood-burning fireplace, and access to the resort’s shoreline.

The cabins are spacious, but still give off that small, log cabin in the woods type feel, which honestly makes me feel right at home.

And if you like exploring the outdoors like we do, then you’ll love the complimentary snowshoe, cross country ski, canoe, and kayak rentals!

Plus you’re just minutes away from some of the most popular hikes, most notably my favorite North Shore hikes, Oberg Mountain and White Sky Rock.

7. Larsmont Cottages

📍Location: Two Harbors

These modernly updated cottages put you right on the shores of Lake Superior on a 40-acre property near Two Harbors.

There are a few options, like ones closer to the lake and ones tucked further back into the forest. Personally, I’ll always choose a lake view because it’s just stunning!

You can choose between 1, 2, or 3 bedroom cottages, so depending how big your family is, you can pick what fits you best.

A pool is found inside, and there’s an all season outdoor hot tub to enjoy. This is espeically nice on those chilly nights during a North Shore winter.

One of my favorite parts about the Larmont Cottages is that they offer free rentals of things like bikes, trekking poles, and snowshoes, so you can really enjoy nature on the North Shore! We borrowed a bike during our stay and it was so nice to go out for a ride!

There are also complimentary s’mores at the beach bonfires at the end of the day. I could be wrong, but ending the day around a fire with a s’more doesn’t sound half bad.

8. Log Homes Near Lake Superior in Beaver Bay

📍Location: Beaver Bay

This entirely log cabin feels right at home the second you step foot inside. I don’t know if it’s the bright sunshine that fills the room, or the cozy feel of the wooden furniture, but it just feels homey.

As you look out the large cabin windows, you’ll see Lake Superior in the distance. Sitting out on the patio is the perfect way to experience the view.

The cozy living room has a wood stove, and up to 6 people can sleep in the bedrooms, which are decorated with classic cabin-like plaid, bear, and wolf designs.

The foosball and air hockey tables in the basement make this North Shore cabin unique, and the grill is perfect for cooking dinner outside!

I also love the kitchen, because the counter space in this cabin is amazing! It’s perfect for preparing your own food while visiting.

9. Luxurious Log Cabin near Gooseberry Falls

📍Location: Two Harbors

If you’re searching for a bit more luxury in your cabin stay, this log cabin near Gooseberry Falls is the place for you.
